Singularity Fractured.
In the year 2154, the 5 richest men in the world had purchased everything money could buy.
That wasn’t enough.
In 2087 they had one by one received immortality via the Singularity and profited from a lesser Singularity they sold to the population.
It seems that secret societies have always run the world.
No longer did the human body ingest foodstuffs, that was far too wasteful and hard to produce. The human body had been tailored to receive energy directly from the grid. This lesser Singularity had unmentioned side effects. Routinely you had to be ‘serviced’ to abate a toxicity that was worse than dying of radioactive fallout. These services started 2 decades after production began.
Needless to say this group of 5 men had the world by the figurative gonads.
Secretly owning all the major genetic research labs, they worked on synergistic projects that no one scientist could have dreamed possible. From the Singularity research they gained the ability to ‘develop’ human beings from inorganic stock.
The aforementioned year, 2154, the Oligarchy (as the 5 are affectionately known in the history books) set their plan into motion. They had each manufactured an ‘Eden Ship.’ This ship was entirely autonomous, was powered by a large Thorium MSR Nuclear reactor, and included a lander.
The entirety of the population had been ‘upgraded’ to the lesser Singularity many years before, any who had resisted were genetically cleansed via engineered diseases. When the Oligarchy left Earth, the planet was barren of human life, having had their ‘services’ withheld until it were fatal.
The 5 Eden ships ventured forth to find habitable planets, each in a different pentagonal direction. Upon reaching them, the lander was launched and began terraforming the planets. Upon completion of the teraforming, the lander ‘printed’ a pair of human beings and the 5 directed them to be fruitful. Each Oligarch used his own method of leadership. One built an army, one Utopia, and three designed various religious backdrops.
The wager among the Oligarchy to birth a civilization, and without direct intervention beyond the first 5 generations, to see whose world would destroy itself first.
The result would determine whether the human race survives, even in this unnatural form.
